McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, a family-owned company that has been part of the Calgary community and leader in the funeral services industry for over 120 years, is seeking a dedicated and professional Transfer Driver to join our dynamic and growing team. This position requires exceptional customer service skills, empathy and compassion assisting families with their loved ones during their time of loss.
This role works a 4-days on, 4-days off schedule with 12-hour shifts. The schedule is overnight 7:00 pm – 7:00 am.
With 10 locations in the Calgary area and a staff of over 130 amazing people, this role offers plenty of variety in day-to-day tasks, a positive work culture, and a supportive team environment.
What You’ll Do:
Properly receive and bring into our care those who have passed away at their home or an institution (hospital, nursing home) and have been entrusted to us. Deliver a family’s loved one in a casket from our Care Centre to one of our Funeral Homes or Crematoriums. Deliver a family’s loved one in an urn from our Crematorium to one of our Funeral Homes. A high attention to detail and accuracy is required for this position. Job duties must always be performed with the company mission and values in mind, while also following all company policies and procedures.
Position Duties
Receiving decedents from place of death and transferring them into our care with dignity and respect
Caring for decedents, preparing them for transfer and using a stretcher for transport to safekeeping at our private facility
Delivering decedents’ caskets or urns to the place of service
Driving in and around Calgary and surrounding area in a professional manner
Setting up for identification viewings or visitations
Deliver important, confidential documents to our funeral home locations
Deliver flower arrangements for services
Wash and clean transfer vehicles, and Care Centre
Assist with funeral services as required
Other duties as assigned
What You Bring:
Professional, kind, and caring demeanor
Current Class 5 (non GDL) driver’s license with a driver’s abstract with six or less demerits
Clean driving record and insured for a minimum of 3 years
Previous 3 years of claims experience letter/statement from your insurance provider
Must be comfortable working with the deceased entrusted into our care and their grieving families
Physically able to undertake the demands of the position – bending, reaching, pushing, pulling
Able to lift and carry up to 75 kg and move a casket
Flexible working weekends, 12-hour shifts, day and night shifts, public holidays
Able to manage, assign and prioritize daily tasks for completion
Strong work ethic, reliable, punctual, honest
Ability to work alone or in a team environment
Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, MS Planner and Google Docs
Knowledge of iPhone use
Must be comfortable wearing the company uniform, PPE and maintaining professional grooming standards as set forth by the company
Strong customer service skills
Sensitivity to cultural practices
A clear background check (Security Clearance)
Availability to work all shifts as scheduled, including weekends and holidays with the ability to work past scheduled hours as required to meet the needs of the families we serve
